Pictures From Nineveh

1st pictures, utter objects, used to water and fertilize soil.
2nd picture close-up   of plateaus latex. the fleshly quality of the "containers" was an interesting element, it reminded me of cow utters again, much like the watering devices.
3rd photo. close-up arial view of grass and dirt inside the plateaus.

4th and 5th photos view of creatures and art.
a tabula rasa.

Ezra Kellerman: Nineveh

I took these photos at the Cressman Center Opening last night
September 16th. 6-8
I also did an interview with the artist which I will post at a later date.

The work is created with organic materials like grass and dirt
along side of  laminated latex with the soil is stored in.

each of the plateaus are built-up with laminated latex. The process takes about a month for all fifty panel and requires 640 pounds of liquid latex and 400 yards of fabrics.

The artist is interested in " the relationship between the two elements, life-support (irrigation) and organism (grass) is symbolic for the survival of life forms in unnatural and uninhabitable places."

there is a "negotiation" that must happen as people happen upon each other between the plateaus.

"the negotiation and subsequent compromise in how to proceed through the corridors becomes allegorical for the cooperation necessary between human beings to assist and sustain the environment, particularly in places where different cultural groups share the same ecosystem"

Green Clean

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/environment/2009-04-21-green-cleaning_N.htm

OK guys last USA Today article....

It was just a really relevant group of article from a "credible" source.
This article talks about alternative cleaning products.

Vinegar, Warm Water and Salt are great cleaning products
Its also nice because being green in this case will not burn a whole in your pocket.

Also this article sites specific reasons why you should opt out of  cleaning products like windex  air fresheners.

RED MEAT and the BLOODY CARBON FOOTPRINT

USA today article about the effect of meat-packing industry and the carbon-footprint. This article is nice because it give you some estimates on carbon footprint of certain items and also steps that each of us may take in order to lower our carbon footprint.

I liked this article because I felt that it had a very proactive message for consumers

Jeffersontown Elementary School

I was at J-Town Elementary school this weekend.
There are some really cool "green" elements at this school.
First I saw a dumpster for recyclables
There is a vegetable garden, which the faculty and students help maintain and use the produce.
There is also a butterfly garden, a sensory garden with herbs like mint, cilantro along that let the children experience nature as the might not have before.

There is also a solar-powered water-fall, and windmill.

This elements are a nice addition to an otherwise dingy backyard of the school. Also its a great way to introduce younger generation to the idea of sustainability/ local gardening.

GreenBean Test

How Green are you?
This fun test is an easy way to get an idea of how environmentally friendly you are.

(Question #1 is your computer plugged in to a power source right now ??)

My Score,
3 Wrong
7 Right ...

1st Art Project

Here are pictures of my ephemeral outdoor art project. I would have to  say that the best part of the project for me was gathering the materials. It was rather the process but not the product.
I tied to focus however on the size and color scale of the feathers when I arranged them in the ground.

Keep Louisville Weird/ Local Farmer's Market

USA Today article which talks about the sustainable farm movement, and the new generation of farmers which are much younger than before. It may also introduce you environmentalist Michael Pollan. Read on for the reasons why you should support your local farmers market, and organic produce
